Hello Everyone!

My name is Carrie and I am working with ALERT this summer, trying to increase volunteer involvement in Arizona. It’s been great so far and I’ve heard from several people who want to come out and help us with our efforts to end human trafficking.

I wanted to let you know I am organizing a few events for the summer and would love to have your help and ideas. A few weeks ago, we hosted a potluck dinner/poster drive. We have about 6,000 posters we are trying to get up across Arizona — they are aimed at raising awareness and getting the ALERT Hotline number out and visible in our communities.

I will be posting new events very soon. Please keep checking back and let me know if you need any more information or would like to share some of your own ideas.
Thanks,
Carrie

ALERT Happenings June 30, 2009

Welcome to the new ALERT website!  My name is Meredith, and I am currently an intern for ALERT. The other interns and I will be posting every so often with updates on what’s going on at ALERT.

Here at ALERT, we are all staying quite busy. Everyday brings something new, and I am learning more than I ever could have imagined. I am currently helping plan and organize the Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program Conference, which takes place August 17-18 in Tucson. It looks as though we will have Ron Soodalter, author of Hanging Captain Gordon and The Slave Next Door, and Kathleen Davis, National Training Director for the Polaris Project, speak. Both have a lot to offer, and we are excited to have them. We are hoping to also have a couple of interactive sessions and panel discussions. It should be interesting to see how it turns out!

We are also in the process of applying for a few grants, which is never a small task! All of the ALERT team has been working very hard, and hope that it all turns out well.

Besides those two projects, working on community outreach and the coalition keeps us all occupied. We had a poster drive potluck last week, and will be poster-ing all of Arizona in the upcoming weeks! The coalition is coming together, and we will hopefully be holding an event later this summer.

Also, if you have a Facebook, be sure to add Trafficking AZ as a friend! We try to update that with news stories regularly, so check it out!
